Drugs
I wanted to take a moment to document all of the drugs (that I can remember) I had administered prior to and following surgery.
During pre-op I was given an IV antibiotic (I didn’t see the full name, but it was a member of the ‘mycin’ family due to my penicillin/amoxicillin allergy. I also have no idea what sedative or anesthesia was used. But, whatever it was worked like a charm. They said they were giving me the sedative right before they rolled me out of pre-op. All I remember is being rolled about 10 feet, then waking up in recovery. Good stuff.
Following surgery, I was initially given Zofran for nausea. I was given several doses of it before they decided to switch to Phenergan which worked on the first dose. I was given shots of Heparin, to prevent blood clots, every 12 hours during my stay (which left a bruise on each injection). I was also given OTC stool softeners (Dulcolax) and Anti-heartburn medicine (Pepcid) on 12 hour intervals. I had an IV pain killer with a my own button to push for the pain (PCA), but I don’t know what it was exactly. Once I was off of the IV, I was given oxycodone with acetaminophen for the remainder of my stay. They were really wanting me to have a bowel movement prior to discharge so I was given the laxative Miralax on my last day.
I was given filled prescriptions for Dulcolax and Hydrocodone to take at home.
